Challenging Charges On Repair And Service Fees
Being responsible car owner means you need to take care of your car and to keep it in mint condition by maintaining it and sending it in for needed repairs. But there are times that you find yourself quite unsatisfied with the way the repair job as handled or you somehow feel that you have been ripped off by the service center you brought your car into.
When this happens, the primary thing that you need to check out is the job order you and the technician have agreed upon. Hopefully, and for your sake, you have kept it in a safe place so you can easily find it. This repair order form should indicate all the services to be rendered to your vehicle, and all the parts that need to be repaired so the job can be completed. This should also cover each and every problem that you have described to the mechanic regarding your car.
Aside from the job order form, you must also have with you the warranty information sheet. This sheet should be signed by you and the mechanic or the car service center’s manager. Never rely on verbal agreements on warranties; your warranty should be in written form. Even if there is no formal and separate sheet for this, the extent of warranty and time duration should be indicated on the bill or the repair order form.
Moreover, you should have the receipt for the job rendered on your vehicle, it should detail how much each repair task and each auto part used have cost. The repairs order form is different from this since the receipt can only be issued after the car repairs have been done.
If think that you need to dispute certain facts on the bill, or on your car’s performance and condition after repairs has been done, the first thing to do is to go back to the service station and the mechanic. You should show him all the documents mentioned and then tell him what problems have you noticed in the car or on the bill. Always give the mechanic or the service center manager the benefit of the doubt. Most repair disputes can easily and quickly be settled in a calm and orderly manner.
On the other hand, if the mechanic or the service center manager refuse to or does not want to settle the problem, you can take legal action against them. Car repair disputes generally revolve on the car trouble left unfixed or there may have been other problems that were caused by mishandling of your vehicle by unqualified person. You could also have disputed on irregularities on the bill and the original repair order. These discrepancies can be automotive parts’ price or higher service fees than what was originally agreed upon.
Your options in taking legal action against mechanics and service centers include going to the Attorney General’s Office, or the Better Business Bureau, and having your own legal representation.
