Gas is no exemption. Since gas price are rising, you may be thinking of selling your car and do some major changes. Of course it’s a good thing. But still, there is a way to keep your car and be thrifty at the same time. If you follow these simple steps, then you may not be losing your car after all.

If you go to the same gasoline station every time you fill up, there is a slight chance that you will get discounts and promos. Go to that gas station on a regular basis. It won’t be long until gasoline station workers will notice you for being a loyal customer. Sure, it might take awhile for this to happen, but being a regular customer might save you the trouble of not getting ripped off.

When you finally settled for a regular gasoline station, use the lowest grade of gas that is suitable for your car. If you have a gas credit card, use it. However, you might want to avoid extra charges and such. It’s better if you pay in cash and be debt free.

You may think that your car is always in good condition, but do a routine car check or maintenance just in case. Check your tires regularly and inflate them properly. Get regular tune ups with the right parts and fresh oil. That way, your engine won’t need much gas all the time. Also, if you have excess junk hidden at the trunk, take them out. Your car will waste more gas if it weights more. Only carry the basic necessities like emergency equipments and tools for your needs.

Be an intelligent driver. Don’t over exert your engine by being aggressive. Don’t go overboard by over speeding, braking, and rapid acceleration. They burn extra fuel. The faster you drive, the more gas you’ll be wasting.

If you are sharing a car with the rest of the household, try to suggest by combining errands into one trip. Also plan your stops ahead of time and use shorter routes if possible. Getting stuck on traffic is a waste of your time, gas, and money. Be smart and use the routes to your advantage.

Air condition may be good and a bad thing. If you want to play your cards right and save money and gas, use air condition when driving on a highway. Close your windows and run the air conditioner. When stuck in traffic though, shut it off and open the windows to lighten your fuel use. That way, you can save fuel and money economically.

Driving and being thrifty means taking responsibility with your actions. Be aware about your expenses. Always think twice on what you need what you don’t need. Always be on the safe side. The more you save money, the more you’ll be enjoying life to the fullest.
