Preparing your Car For A Road Trip
Working hard does have its rewards; you do not feel guilty in taking a vacation, away from all the worries that deadlines bring. If you are the type of person that likes to travel in your car, you must have realized that planning your trip very well ensures that you get to enjoy your short holiday.
Here are some tips you could follow to make sure that your trip becomes hassle-free
1. Check your vehicle’s condition. This is a must for any traveler. You will need to check the basics, such as your tire inflation, your motor oil, brakes, battery, and your air conditioning. You would not want the stress of your car breaking down on you somewhere on a dark road with few houses around. Aside from those, check your headlights, tail lights, and fog lights.
2. Bring your extras. Make sure that you have extra motor oil and a jug of water inside your trunk. Check your spare tire just in case one of your tires runs flat. Additionally, have extra brake oil just in case you need to refill.
3. Check your car tools. Every vehicle has to have a complete set of emergency kits that house your screws, screw drivers, your jack and an early warning device. You may also want to bring jumper cables in case you need to jumpstart your battery if you accidentally discharge it.
4. Check your emergency supplies. You will need to bring a blanket, some energy food, drinking water, and basic medicines such as paracetamol, anti-allergies, and decongestants. Try to bring medications that are non-drowsy. Hopefully, you do not get sick while on the road but if you do, it is better to be ready instead of having to look for a drugstore which might take time. Besides, if you suddenly fall ill at night, you would not want to tolerate the discomfort until morning when all the stores open.
5. Look into your glove compartment. You should have all your necessary documents pertaining to the car in the compartment. Check your vehicle registration and proof of warranty for various parts of the automobile in case you need your car repaired while on the trip. You will also need a flashlight, extra batteries for it, and a pair of sunglasses. Have a list of all emergency phone numbers in there too, so if you get into an accident, the paramedics will know who to contact. Have a map in your compartment too so you would have a form of reference if you get lost or confused.
6. Check your hitches and other towing accessories. If you are bringing a trailer or sporting equipment such as a bike, a jet ski, or a boat, you will need to thoroughly check the links and the hitches you have. It is quite difficult to navigate the roads when you have something trailing behind you, so make sure you follow necessary safety procedures. If you have a carrier on top of your vehicle, check the height as you may snag on trees or the ceiling of low establishments.
When traveling, always put your safety and other people’s safety in mind.
